About

Through my work as an acoustical consultant at Arup, I've been able to apply my passion for sound & music to the built environment, helping make all sorts of different building projects (concert halls, offices, event centers, etc) sound as good as they can. I've also had the opportunity to help research and develop a new, cutting edge method of architectural auralization using the Unity and Unreal game engines.

As a creative programmer, I'm interested in building new tools for creative expression. My current project is a vocal effects processor that uses hand movements to change sound parameters, allowing a more engaging and clearly understable performance of vocal effects than usual methods, while being significantly more user-friendly and inexpensive than other existing tools for gestural sound control. The project runs on a Daisy Seed, with all the audio DSP coded in C++. I'll hopefully have a video demo of that coming soon.

I'm a native of Ann Arbor MI, currently located in Seattle.

I recently had the amazing opportunity to visit Reykjavík and participate in a webinar for Treble Technologies, who make excellent acoustic modeling software. I discussed my own experience as an acoustician, and some of my thoughts on the discipline.

I've been a musician since childhood, learning lots of instruments along the way. My current band is called Art Gecko - see our website for more. One project I'm particularly proud of is our music video for the song Kuiper Belt, which I mixed and played guitar on. The beautiful video is by our friend Josh.

Some past projects from my youth include:

Drums with high school jazz group Tempus Fugit
Drums+bass with dad rock band Earl Grey and the Teabaggers
All the instruments for a Vulfpeck cover
Drums with extracurricular jazz group Jefferson Court Trio
Co-writer and all instruments except vocals. Featuring Jacob Sugarman
