Soundw(e)ave

Soundw(e)ave is an interactive sound art installation created by my team at Arup and Mithun architects for Seattle Design Festival 2025. Visitors were invited to contribute recorded messages for loved ones into an old phone at the entrance. Messages were then played back into a feedback chamber, which was tuned to the key of the ambient soundscape playing inside. Recordings from throughout the event were woven into the interior musical composition, giving occasional glimpses of messages from those who came before. On top of all this, distance sensors responded to movement inside with changes to both the balance of musical elements and lighting using variable-aperture skylights.

I led Arup's involvement with the project, which included acoustical, audiovisual, lighting, and structural design. My work was primarily on the interactive phone recording and sensor system, design of the tuned feedback chamber, and direction of the musical composition.
